Nyalenda Slum
Campaign

This is Kisumu, Kenya’s third-largest city, home to over 700,000 people. But for the majority, life here is a daily struggle for essentials most take for granted.

60% of Kisumu’s population lives in informal settlements like Nyalenda, the city’s largest slum, located on the eastern side. Home to over 150,000 people, Nyalenda was built by the Kasagam community and has grown into a densely populated, underserved area where many live on less than a dollar a day. Water access is unreliable. The city’s aging infrastructure often fails, forcing families to rely on unsafe sources—springs, boreholes, or rainwater.

The cost? Outbreaks of cholera, typhoid, and other preventable diseases that fill clinics with cases of waterborne infections.Sanitation is dangerously lacking. Few toilets. Open sewage. And a broken system that puts entire neighborhoods at risk, especially children.

Nyalenda is divided into two zones—A and B. Zone A is more deeply affected, while B borders Dunga Beach and has seen modest development. But need exists throughout.

Unemployment is high, especially among youth, fueling crime and hopelessness. But Nyalenda is not defined by its challenges. It’s defined by its people. Their resilience. And their hope for a better tomorrow. With your partnership, we can change the story.

Clean water. Improved sanitation. Healthier families. Safer communities. It all begins with your support.

Join us. Help bring life-saving water to Nyalenda and the hope of Jesus Christ to generations to come.
