This is the second installment of our dive into The Bucket Ministry’s engagement model: “Pray, Give, Go.” Last week’s blog is linked at the bottom of this post. We would encourage you to read both blogs to get an understanding of two aspects of this model. We hope you’ll join us next week for the final post.
Today’s post focuses on Give.
1 Peter 4:10: “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”
God calls us to give. In 1 Peter 4:10, He tells us to use our gifts to serve one another. We must give of ourselves to love and serve others.
When we think of giving, many often first think of giving financially. That is a good and important way to give, but it is not the only way. Especially considering many people’s current financial situations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many are searching for non-financial ways to give in the ways God commands.
2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Deuteronomy 15:10: “Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.”
God does not want us to give reluctantly. We must give from our hearts, not from pressure we feel from outside sources. God has given His people hearts for service and generosity, and once we tap into that, we are able to give willingly and He blesses us because of that. This cycle of giving for the glory of God and receiving blessings leads to more trust and a deeper relationship with the Lord.
Romans 12:13: “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”
God instructs us to love others as ourselves. That means we must help those in need. Over 785 million people lack access to clean, safe drinking water. People die daily from waterborne diseases. Their lives can be changed by a simple filter that The Bucket Ministry can provide for just $50.
The Bucket Ministry focuses on giving of both money and time. Our ministry would not be able to bring God’s love and clean, safe water to those in need without the generous donations of many, but our ministry uses gifts of all kinds. We encourage giving of time through traveling on mission trips, attending or volunteering for events, and sharing the story of our mission. There are countless ways to give your time for the glory of God. Use your gifts and talents for Him!
